Client Brief
Belgrave Harriers Running Club required electrical safety and compliance works at the clubhouse in Wimbledon Village. The brief included completing an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), upgrading the existing distribution board, installing a compliant emergency lighting system, and upgrading existing lighting to energy-efficient LED fittings.
The client’s priority was to ensure the building met current safety regulations, improve reliability and energy efficiency, and enhance lighting quality throughout the facility, all within a limited budget and a strict two-week programme. The works also needed to be carefully managed due to the building remaining partially operational.
Scope of Works
- Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
- Upgrade distribution boards and re-test
- Reconfiguration and clear labelling of circuits
- Removal of outdated light fittings and installation of LED lighting
- Installation of new emergency lighting throughout escape routes and key areas
- Testing, commissioning, and certification
- Final handover documentation and compliance reports
Key Challenges
- Active environment: The clubhouse remained partially operational, requiring controlled shutdowns, flexible working hours, and strict segregation between work areas and occupied spaces.
- Compliance-critical works: The EICR identified issues requiring immediate rectification, while ensuring all upgrades complied with current electrical regulations, emergency lighting standards, and energy-efficiency requirements.
- Short programme: All inspections, upgrades, installations, testing, and certification had to be completed within a two-week timeframe.
The project commenced with a full Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to inform the programme and prioritise remedial works. Phased electrical shutdowns were implemented to minimise disruption to the clubhouse’s ongoing operations.
A modern, compliant distribution board was installed to improve safety and circuit protection, alongside the delivery of a fully compliant emergency lighting system throughout the facility. Internal lighting was upgraded to high-efficiency LED fittings, improving illumination levels while reducing energy consumption and long-term running costs. Throughout the works, daily coordination, site supervision, and progress monitoring were maintained to ensure programme compliance, quality assurance, and effective communication with the client.
Outcome & Results
- Works completed within the two-week programme
- Delivered within the £20,000 budget
- Electrical installation fully compliant and certified
- Improved lighting quality, safety, and energy efficiency
- Reduced long-term maintenance and operating costs
- Positive feedback from the client
This project demonstrates our capability to deliver safety-critical and energy-efficient electrical upgrades within a active environment. Through careful planning, coordination, and compliance management, the Belgrave Harriers clubhouse now benefits from a safer, more reliable, and more sustainable electrical installation.
